The SHPE Community Project is a program that gets SHPE to take an active role in the Austin community through service. Within the Community Project Program, members participate in numerous volunteer opportunities like Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, Feria Para Aprender, Austin Animal Shelter, park cleanups, and many more. We stress to our members the importance of giving back to the community and serving as good role models. This is a great opportunity for corporate representatives to network with students and demonstrate the company’s passion for service. Corporate representatives are encouraged to choose a community outreach project that they are passionate about or one that their company is currently involved in.
Noche de Ciencias
Noche de Ciencias is an interactive community outreach event hosted to raise awareness about college and STEM related fields to K-12 students through exciting engineering activities. Presentations about college and financial aid are also provided to parents. We work closely with the SHPE Austin professional chapter to being this event into existence. This is an exciting opportunity for corporate supporters to demonstrate their commitment to bettering the community, as well pave the way for future engineers.
Advancing College Education (ACE) Program
Our Advancing College Education (ACE) program supports STEM awareness within our K-12 community in Austin, TX. We host events for our SHPE Jr. Chapter as well as other schools in the area to have the chance to visit UT Austin and learn about the possibility to becoming a STEM student. Through out the year we plan and invite students to participate in Young Engineers & Scientists (YES) Day, Leadership Through Education (LTE) Day, SHPE Jr. Shadow Day, SHPE Jr. Conference, Longhorn Engineering, and Explore UT. We also support and mentor our SHPE Jr. chapters by collaborating once a week to discuss STEM careers, professionalism, college readiness, and advocacy. As a corporate sponsor you will have the chance to not only impact a student’s education but a whole community to discover the beauty of STEM.
